Our Mission
Our mission is to ensure that no student is turned away from the education of their parent’s choice due to financial constraints. A quality education is the right of every Arizona student regardless of financial means. Tuition aid awards are based strictly on financial need.
The Brophy Community Foundation was organized and incorporated in 1998 in response to the Arizona Private School Tuition Tax Law of 1997 (A.R.S. Section 43-1089). This law allows Arizona individual taxpayers to donate up to $500 if single, or $1000 if married filing jointly, to a school tuition organization, such as the Brophy Community Foundation, and receive a dollar for dollar state income tax credit for their donation.
In 2006, a corporate tax credit became law allowing us to provide even more tuition aid to families with a financial need. This dollar for dollar corporate tax credit is available to “C” corporations and “S” corporations (only S-corps that file income tax on a 120 Corporate Income Tax Return). There is no contribution cap per corporation, but there is a statewide cap of $20.736 million for FY 2010-2011.
In 2009, the corporate tax credit was expanded to include insurance companies that pay a premium tax.
The Brophy Community Foundation is a school tuition organization and as such allocates 90% of its annual revenue for tuition aid to students at Brophy College Preparatory, several valley private feeder elementary schools, and to several schools in Northern Arizona including St. Michael’s Indian School, St. Anthony’s, St Peter’s Indian Mission and St. Joseph’s. We also assist Boys Hope Girls Hope students.
The Brophy Community Foundation is a tax-exempt organization pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. The Foundation’s Federal Identification Number is 86-0929111.
Brophy Community Foundation financial statements, Arizona Department of Revenue reports and Arizona Corporation Commission filings are available upon request.
