The
Brophy Community Foundation was organized and incorporate
in 1998 in response to the Arizona Private School Tuition
Tax Law of 1997 (A.R.S. Section 43-1089). This law allows
Arizona taxpayers to donate up to $500 if single, or $1000
if married filing jointly, to a school tuition organization,
such as the Brophy Community Foundation, and receive a dollar
for dollar state income tax credit for their donation.
In 2006, a corporate tax credit became law allowing
us to provide even more tuition aid to families with a financial
need. This dollar for dollar corporate tax credit is available
to “C” corporations and “S” corporations
(only if the “S” corporation has a tax liability
at the corporate level). There is no contribution cap per
corporation, but there is a statewide cap of $10 million for
FY 2006-07. Each year, for the five years of the program,
the cap will increase by 20%, until FY 2010-2011, when it
will reach nearly $21 million.
The Brophy Community Foundation is a school
tuition organization and as such allocates 90% of its annual
revenue for tuition aid to students at Brophy College Preparatory,
several private feeder elementary schools, St Michaels Indian
School (http://smis1902.org)
and Boys Hope Girls Hope (http://www.bhghaz.com)
students.
Tuition aid awards are based strictly on financial
need. The Foundation’s goal is to ensure that no qualified
student is turned away from a Brophy education due to financial
constraints.
Brophy Community Foundation is a tax-exempt
organization pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal
Revenue Code of 1986. The Foundation’s Federal Identification
Number is 86-0929111.
