Dear Friend of Brophy,
As you may be aware, there have been some recent articles in the press, critical of some aspects of both the individual and corporate private school tax credit programs statewide. In an effort to address these issues as it affects the Brophy Community Foundation (BCF), I want to make sure that you have the facts and are aware of our past and ongoing efforts.
- The mission of the BCF is to provide financial aid to students who could never dream of affording a private school education
- Since its inception the BCF awards financial aid only to students who have verified financial need and distributes the donations to K-12 students who attend AZ qualified schools
- The BCF serves Brophy students, students from 24 schools statewide and Boys/Girls Hope students
- BCF was formed in 1999 and since then the Brophy minority population has grown from 16.6% to 28.4% today
- The BCF does not and has never accepted donor designated or recommended donations
- The BCF keeps its overhead costs to a minimum to maximize tuition aid to students with a verified need
- Over the past 11 years, the BCF has given over 3800 awards totaling just over $9.2M with an average award of $2357 to families whose average income is $41,000
- Since early November BCF and its representatives have been proactively working with the Attorney General’s office and the Arizona Legislature to address a multitude of tax credit issues including but not limited to: means testing, 10% expense cap, oversight and enforcement, 501(c)(3) status, 90% payout, donor designations/recommendations, among others
We hope this clarifies any concerns you may have about the Brophy Community Foundation. Please support our mission to make school choice a reality for all families regardless of financial limitations and give your tax credit donation to the Brophy Community Foundation today. This donation costs you nothing, but gives students the opportunity of a lifetime.
