STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

SERGIO SILLER, CLASS OF 2009
Before deciding to attend Brophy, I went to an open house. I was overwhelmed at first; however, after talking with the staff I felt completely at home. I’m glad that I took the initiative to check out Brophy because if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have met my friends or had the experiences that I will now remember for the rest of my life.
I think Brophy is different from any other high school around because it incorporates academics, religion and personal growth into the curriculum, which together create a more well-rounded person. I learned about different aspects of the world through our Summit presentations, was exposed to different lifestyles by participating in community service and made friends by joining the theatre club and going on school retreats.
All of this would not have been possible without the Brophy Community Foundation. The Foundation has provided me with the means to attend Brophy, and the Foundation staff have always been there for me and gone out of their way to assist me whether financially or personally. Brophy has allowed me to discover who I am by constantly challenging me to become a better person.
I am excited for college because I know that I will be able to appreciate everything it has to offer, I am thankful for all the knowledge that Brophy has instilled in me, which has prepared me for success. After college, I hope to have a career that I think would impact someone the same way that Brophy has impacted me. |

RAFAEL BUERBA, CLASS OF 2004
My family had always thought Brophy was the best high school in Arizona, but knew they could not afford to send me there. As soon as I heard that they had financial aid available through the Brophy Community Foundation, I went to an open house, passed my test and told my family not to worry about the financial aspect anymore.
I was a little scared my freshman year because the academics were very demanding, but it made me work hard. The harder I worked, the more opportunities I was awarded. The more you put into Brophy, the more you get out of the “Brophy experience.” I was involved in National Honors Society, school retreats, Best Buddies, Special Olympics, tutoring and varsity soccer. Through these clubs, I also became very involved with community service.
In return for receiving help from the Foundation, I participated in a program called work-study. In the work-study program I got involved with different projects that improved Brophy and the campus. This experience humbled me, taught me to give back and taught me to truly help others.
When I was deciding which college to attend, the counselors at Brophy encouraged me to apply to Harvard. I did and was accepted. I don’t know if I would have had the opportunity to graduate from such an elite college if I had not had the chance to attend Brophy. Furthermore, if I had not gone to such a rigorous high school, I think Harvard would have been much more difficult for me. After graduating college in May 2008, I have decided to pursue medical school in hopes of becoming a doctor. When I become successful, I hope to give back to the Foundation since they are the reason I was able to follow my dreams. |
